How To Grow Your List Even When You’re Dealing With Overwhelm.

I want to talk about something that's often discussed in the world of online business - list building. For some of you who are already overwhelmed, this may feel like something that’s impossible to accomplish without adding additional stress.

I’m sure you’ve heard that building an email list is essential for growing your business, but is it really that important? I believe it is, and here's why.

Size isn't everything!

First and foremost, let's address the elephant in the room - the size of your email list. The size of your list isn't as important as you may think. It really depends on your business model.

For example, if you rely on a micro offer or have a passive income product, then yes, you may need a larger list that is continuing to grow at a rapid rate to make sales. But if you're a coach or service provider who works with a handful of clients at once, then a small, engaged list can be perfect.

ENGAGEMENT IS KEY

Regardless of the size of your list, what's really important is engagement. It's not just about having a large number of subscribers - it's about having a list of people who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer and are willing to engage with you. This is where having a small, engaged list can be beneficial.

When you have a smaller list, you can focus on building deeper relationships with your subscribers and providing them with valuable content and resources that they actually want and need.

A COMMUNITY OF FRIENDS

Personally, I use my email list as my community. I don't have another "group" or way to interact with me, so for me, having a small, engaged list is perfect. My subscribers feel like friends rather than just an "open rate" or number on a list. I'm able to have more meaningful conversations with you (my subscribers), and provide you with personalised support and guidance.

This not only helps me feel more connected to you, but it also helps me better understand your needs and how I can best serve you.

THE POWER OF EMAIL MARKETING

But why email? Why not focus on social media or other marketing channels? While social media can be a powerful tool for building a community and engagement, email marketing is still one of the most effective ways to reach your ideal clients and promote your offerings.

When someone subscribes to your email list, they're giving you permission to contact them directly and provide them with valuable content and resources. This is a powerful opportunity to build trust, establish your expertise, and promote your products and services.

Plus, with email marketing, you have more control over the content and messaging you're putting out into the world. You're not at the mercy of ever-changing algorithms or social media policies. You can create targeted and personalised messages that speak directly to your ideal clients and provide them with the support and guidance they need.

BUILDING YOUR LIST

So, how do you go about building an engaged email list?

First things first, treat it as a conversation with them - don't make it all gimmicky, write as if you're talking to your BFF.

Be open and honest (dare I say authentic - though it's an overused word - be yourself - share your hopes and fears, your successes and challenges - be REAL - ditch the email formulas and just write from your heart).

Collaborate with others - this is the best way to build your list and build relationships in the online space!

HERE ARE THE FEW QUICK LIST-BUILDING TIPS TO HELP:

Know your ideal client. As with any marketing strategy, it's important to know who you're trying to reach and what their needs are. Answer the question, what do they want in their inbox - quick tips, stories, funny memes? Do your market research and find out what they are wanting to read. Do they want short or long? How often do they want to hear from you? Do they like links to other content? What is it they want to receive from you … ? Then - give it to them!

Offer something of value. To entice people to subscribe to your list, you need to offer them something of value in exchange. This could be a free resource, a webinar, a discount on your course, or exclusive content. Give them what they could benefit the most from.

PROVIDE VALUE

Once someone subscribes to your list, it's important to provide them with consistent value and engagement. Don't just send out sales pitches - provide them with valuable content, resources, and support. On the topic of frequency, this doesn't have to be weekly if that feels too overwhelming - but connect with them regularly. Just engage with them so they remember you and want to reply to you.

In today's digital era, building an email list is an essential aspect of any successful marketing strategy. By knowing your ideal client, offering something of value, making it easy to subscribe, and providing consistent value, you can build an engaged and loyal audience that will not only support your business but also spread the word about your offerings.

Remember, it's not just about the size of your list, but the quality of engagement and relationship you build with your subscribers. And again, that depends on how much you’re willing to pour into your people.
